Angie Zhou of conference regular season champion No. 6 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges became the first three-time SCIAC Athlete of the Year winner since 2013 to headline the 2025 SCIAC Women’s Tennis All-Conference Teams.
Zhou went unbeaten in singles during conference play, including wins over the ITA West Region’s second-, third- and fifth-ranked players in the regular season’s final three matches. The senior teamed with
Marissa Markey to win all three doubles matches at the top court over that same period as the Sagehens earned the top seed and hosting rights in the SCIAC Tournament.
Occidental College’s
Greta Nagy earned the Newcomer of the Year award after notching four singles and two doubles wins in conference play. The rookie provided stability at the top court for the Tigers all season.
Ella Brissett of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges was presented the Character Award, reserved for a senior who best exemplifies success on the court, in the classroom and with involvement in community and school service. The two-time doubles All-American, team national champion and captain has compiled a 3.95 grade-point average as a Biology major with a minor in gender and sexuality studies. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, Brissett has exhibited leadership on campus in several roles including as Founder and President of the Women’s Empowerment in Sports Club, intern for the Keck Science Center in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, a Handley Women in Leadership Development Fellow, Peer Mentor for Women and Minority Voices in STEM and the CMS Title IX Committee.
Mike Morgan and the Pomona-Pitzer bench earned Coaching Staff of the Year recognition after toppling CMS in the regular season finale to finish SCIAC play unbeaten for the first time since 2022. Four singles players rank among the top nine in the ITA West Region as well as the top and seventh-ranked doubles tandems.
CMS led all teams with four First Team selections and Pomona-Pitzer matched for the most total selections. Each of the University of Redlands, California Lutheran University and Oxy landed one player on each team while Caltech garnered a pair of Second Team nods and Chapman University one. Zhou and
Mari Carmen Bufkin earned their fourth career All-SCIAC First Team honors while
Alisha Chulani (CMS) made a third career First Team cut and teammate
Lindsay Eisenman along with Redlands’
Maegan Deng repeated on the top squad. Pomona-Pitzer’s Markey another Athena,
Ella Brissett, both made the step up after two career Second Team selections.
Chapman’s
Alexis Golin and Pomona-Pitzer’s
Lauren Rha each picked up third career acknowledgements while
Kiana Brady (UR) returned to the Second Team after a one-year hiatus and both
Nyaki Kanefu (PP) and
Payal Patel (CIT) repeated on the Second Team.
