Top-seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges advanced over Caltech, 4-1, in the semifinals of the 2026 SCIAC Women’s Tennis Tournament on Thursday evening.
The visitors knocked the nation’s No. 1 team back on its heels by taking the doubles point courtesy of Carissa Gerung and Polaris Hayes at court #1 and Aoi Kunimoto and Anna Szczuka at #2.
CMS recovered quickly as singles play got underway, taking the first set on five courts. Bell Zhou notched the Athenas’ first point of the match at court #3 and was quickly followed by Constantin Cedillo-Vayson de Pradenne and Shifali Dinesh at courts #5 and #6. Gerung and Szczuka held early leads in the second set at the top two courts but with momentum swinging back to the hosts, Ananya Sriniketh won six consecutive games to close out the match with the win at court #2.
CMS will host Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in the tournament final on Saturday, May 2 at 11 a.m.
