Payton caught fire to break open the game for Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in a 74-45 victory over No. 25 Mary Hardin-Baylor University. The rookie entered the game late in the first quarter and promptly dished out an assist, grabbed an offensive board then kicked off a streak of draining six consecutive three-pointers within 30 seconds of hitting the floor in the second quarter. Payton later hit a seventh trey to finish one shy of the program record, totaling 21 points on 64 percent shooting to go with three steals, three rebounds and two assists in just 22 minutes of action.

Hometown/High School: Livermore, Calif. / Granada
Brongiel came off the bench to block five shots and grab 15 rebounds in just 21 minutes for California Lutheran University in a 70-67 upset over RV Texas Lutheran University. The center added four points and a steal in addition to grabbing another seven boards, three blocks, three assists and eight points in just eight minutes against new NAIA member Stanton University.
