The No. 21 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges Athenas upset No. 2 University of La Verne for the SCIAC Volleyball Tournament crown to avenge two regular season defeats and qualify for the NCAA Championship.

The hosts Leopards sprung out to a 2-0 lead thanks to early advantages in both sets before CMS began to claw back. The Athenas picked up momentum with a run in the third set and came away with the fourth before a tense back-and-forth fifth in which ULV had a chance for match point 14-13, when CMS got the side out and rattled off three consecutive points to reclaim the tournament title after a one-year hiatus.
