Top-seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges avenged a Thursday defeat to the University of La Verne with a 15-2 victory to advance to the Championship series against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.
La Verne scored on a sacrifice fly in the first inning but SCIAC Athlete of the Year
Alex Henderson smashed a two-run homer in the bottom of the frame to flip the margin. The Leopards responded with another run in the top of the second but Henderson and the Stags bats struck back with a five-run third, including a second two-run bomb from the first baseman who would finish with three hits on the day.
Max Pemberton went 2-for-3 with a walk, home run, two runs and three RBI from the six-spot in the Stags lineup. Four CMS pitchers appeared over the shortened seven-inning game, with
Bryant Smaaladen earning the win with a team-high 2.2 scoreless innings.
