Offensive Athlete of the Week
Name: Fischer Huss
School: Chapman
Year: Junior
Position/Number: Running Back / #5
Hometown/High School: Fullerton, Calif. / Troy
Fischer needed just seven carries to clear the century mark with 113 yards rushing in Chapman University’s victory over the University of La Verne. The junior scored two touchdowns, including a 44-yard sprint on his final carry of the game just before halftime.
Defensive Athlete of the Week
Name: Drew Nees
School: California Lutheran
Year: Sophomore
Position/Number: Outside Linebacker / #10
Hometown/High School: Portland, Ore. / Sunset
Another dominant performance from Nees helped California Lutheran University to lift its first Smudge Pot trophy since 2013 with a 27-10 road win at the University of Redlands. The breakout sophomore made eight total tackles (four solo), including 3.5 for loss with 1.5 sacks on four hurries, a forced fumble, fumble recovery and third interception of the season.
Special Teams Athlete of the Week
Name: Jack Walker
School: Pomona-Pitzer
Year: Senior
Position/Number: Kicker/Punter / #11
Hometown/High School: Orlando, Fla. / Lake Nona
Walker converted both point-after attempts, hit a 28-yard field goal to open the scoring and booted five punts for 185 yards in Pomona-Pitzer Colleges’ eventual 25-17 victory over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
