NCAA Women's Tennis Championships: Athenas Headed to Chattanooga for Quarterfinals

No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges is headed to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship in Chatanooga, Tenn. after defeating Pomona-Pitzer Colleges for a third time in as many weeks.

CMS enters the postseason with a 23-1 record and a 23-match win streak since falling 4-3 on opening day in January to UC Riverside, a Division I school. The Athenas have not lost to a Division III team this season, including winning the ITA Indoor Nationals with 4-3 victories over defending national champion WashU and Emory, before a 4-1 win in the finals over Chicago. 

Last weekend, CMS earned the SCIAC Championship with a 5-0 win over Pomona-Pitzer to earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. The Athenas have reached nationals every year since 2011, when it was held at Biszantz for the first time.

Pomona-Pitzer advanced to the championship game of last week's SCIAC Tournament but fell 4-0 to the Athenas. The Sagehens currently hold a 10-8 overall record and went 6-1 in conference play in 2025-26. 
 
Last season, Pomona-Pitzer advanced to the NCAA Championship Game but narrowly fell 4-3 to Washington University in St. Louis.
