Occidental College came out of the gates fastest with all five players notching birdies on the opening hole and settled into third place nine strokes behind the leaders by the round’s conclusion. The University of Redlands ranks fourth at +7, followed by Chapman University (+8), California Lutheran University (+14) and the University of La Verne (+27).

Ken Cremers and Jay Alvarado Wing share the individual lead at seven-below par through two rounds for Pomona-Pitzer and Redlands, respectively. The Sagehen was the only golfer under-par on Par 3s while Wing topped the charts on Par 4s and ranked second on Par 5s to CLU’s Jackson Stitt. Samson Li and Sebi Aliaga held their positions for CMS among the top five at -4 and -3 with five others tying for fifth place. Another Sagehen, William Zhuang, turned in the low round of the day at -5.

The course played about 1.5 strokes easier for the second round with the first and ninth holes remaining among the lowest scores, while all four Par 3s again proved hardest with just eight combined birdies recorded. CMS separated from the pack with a seven-stroke edge as the only team under par on the Par 4s while everyone came in below par on the reachable Par 5s, including Oxy’s field-best -12.

The tournament will conclude tomorrow, Saturday, Apr. 25 with the men’s teams set to tee off following the women’s at approximately 10:13 a.m.
