NCAA Championship: Bulldogs Headed to First Women's College World Series

No. 7 University of Redlands swept Emory University in the first Super Regional ever hosted in Southern California to reach the Bulldogs' first-ever Division III Women's College World Series that will be held in Bloomington, Ill. at Illinois Wesleyan University.

Box Score

The hosts cut the game short again by run-rule, 13-2, for a total of 25 runs scored over the pair of games yesterday and today. Avery Provenzano, who until the SCIAC Tournament had just 10 career hits, five runs and three RBI continued a torrid postseason run to earn Most Outstanding Player of the series recognition. The rookie slahed .750/.857/1.250 with three runs and five RBI in the two-game slate to accrue a postseason line of 10-for-20 with three walks, eight doubles, seven runs and six RBI. Paige Ellinger came on in relief to earn the win with 3.1 scoreless innings and was named the Most Outstanding Pitcher.

Playing as the visiting team after coming away victorious on Thursday, Redlands quickly jumped on the board as Bella Culp smashed a home run to straightaway centerfield for the 1-0 lead. Kassidy Long made it 2-0 with a two-out double down the left field line and Provenzano drew a bases-loaded walk to go ahead 3-0 through three frames.

Back-to-back homers would be all Emory could muster in the bottom stanza and the Bulldogs were off to the races after Maya Holshoe sent a pinch-hit two-RBI triple off the wall, then scored on a wild pitch.

Long ended the series 3-for-6 with two doubles, two walks, two runs and a pair of RBI while Jenay Scott went 6-for-7 with six runs scored.

Redlands will head to Illinois to play for a national championship from May 29-June 4.
