NCAA Championship: CMS Vaults Into Top Five, UR Close Behind Through Day Three

No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges carded the joint-runner-up low round of Day Three at +1 to move into a tie for fourth place while No. 13 University of Redlands improved to seventh and No. 6 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges ended just outside the top 10 at the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship.

Esther Lee paced the Athenas after opening the round with one of just eight eagles all tournament on Hole 9, carding a -1 while Christine Yu and Stella Cheng played Even-par and Jessie Kong came in at +2. SCIAC Newcomer of the Year Rena Kaneko moved into seventh place individually with a an Even-par round while Kylie McGrath led the Bulldogs, who had the fourth-lowest team round of moving day, at -1.
 
The Athenas sit at a collective +36 trailing leader No. 2 Emory University at +11, No. 1 Carnegie Mellon University (+24) and Middlebury College (+31). The Bulldogs are just four strokes back at +40 and the Sagehens trail by another five. The River Course has played one stroke lower than the Plantation Course on the weekend. Pomona-Pitzer has played Par 3s just a single stroke behind Emory for best in the field and ranks third on Par 5s, with CMS and Redlands joint-sixth another two strokes back. Individually, Malia Loo (PP) and Yu have been the most successful players in the field on Par 3s at -2 and -1, respectively while Jizelle Robledo (UR) has been joint-second best on Par 5s at an impressive -5.
 
The final round will begin tomorrow, Friday, May 16 at 6:00 a.m. Pacific Time.
