The RV/Division III No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges Stags claimed a second USA Water Polo DIII National Championship in three years with a 9-4 victory over No. 2 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges early Sunday afternoon.

The hosts made a strong early statement of intent with a shutout first quarter to lead 2-0. Pomona-Pitzer halved the deficit in the second quarter than tied the game at 4-4 heading into the fourth quarter, which Nick Kennedy and CMS took over late as the SCIAC Offensive Athlete of the Year finished with five goals and an assist. Jake Taylor also was a major difference-maker with an incredible 12 saves.
