The RV/Division III No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges Stags defeated No. 9 Augustana College, 12-7, in the first semifinal game of the USA Water Polo DIII National Championship early Saturday afternoon.

Augustana came out firing and looked to be threatening the upset with an early 4-2 lead, but CMS scored twice in the final 33 seconds of the first quarter to level the score before rattling off another three unanswered goals in the second to break the game open. The Stags continued to pressure the visitors in a 3-0 third quarter that put the game out of reach.
Nick Kennedy led the hosts with four goals and two assists while
Luke "Bear" Weigle also netted a hat trick.
Jake Taylor made eight saves, several of which came at point-blank range and in key moments that allowed CMS to continue building momentum.
The Stags will host the winner of the next semifinal game in the National Championship final tomorrow, Sunday, Dec. 7 at 12 p.m.
