The second-seeded Bulldogs of the University of Redlands advanced to the SCIAC Tournament final with a 2-1 victory over Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Thursday night.
Zachary Darmanyan scored just as the clock ticked into the 20th minute to stake the hosts to a 1-0 lead they would never relinquish. An open game flow ensued for the next 50 minutes as both teams played fearlessly and generate multiple good looks, but both goalkeepers Brady Bachman and Jasper Broad were largely up to the task with impressive saves on several occasions.
Nicolas Janssen appeared to seal the win in the 76th minute after a quick buildup from Yusef Mayet and Jacob White, but the Sagehens pushed relentlessly to get onto the board and did so in the 90th minute courtesy of Seb Lee Jara. With just 33 seconds remaining, it was all the Sagehens could do to win a corner that had to be taken hastily as time expired.
Redlands will head to top-seeded Occidental College for the tournament final on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
