Pomona-Pitzer Claims Fifth Straight Men's Cross Country Championship, Stein Breaks Record

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges claimed a fifth straight SCIAC men's cross country championship on their home course early Saturday morning.The Sagehens, ranked 14th nationally, placed all five scorers among the Top 10 of the field to win by 19 points with a total of 29.that included new course record holder Jack Stein.

Results

Stein led the race from start to finish en route to a finishing time of 24:33.5 that beat the previous record by just 1.5 seconds. After running with Hayden Beauchemin of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges and Stian Asper from the University of Redlands for the first 15 minutes, the preseason favorite as 2024's highest returning finisher broke away to chase down the record and individual title.

CMS was runner-up with 49 points while the University of La Verne edged out Redlands, 100-109, for third place. Caltech came in fifth with 134 points, followed by Occidental College (154), Chapman University (180), Whittier College (251) and California Lutheran University (273). Jack Elfenbaum represented Oxy in fourth place as the only other Top-10 finisher from a non-5C institution.

Pomona-Pitzer will host the NCAA West Regional in two weeks on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 9 a.m.
