Cody Carlson was a four-year member of the Redlands men’s soccer program from 2008-2011. In that time the Bulldogs had one of their best four-year stretches, winning 59 games, reaching the NCAA tournament twice, and winning the Southern California
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) regular season title thrice.
He made All-SCIAC in his final three seasons and named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-American in 2010, one of only 12 players to have earned that honor through the 2024 Redlands men’s soccer season.
The 5-8 then-senior forward from Burbank helped the Bulldogs match a program record with 20 wins in 2011. Their historic season included a 16-game winning streak, the longest in program history, and culminated with the opportunity to host the opening four rounds of the NCAA tournament.
After wins in the first two rounds over Pacific Lutheran University and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, who they lost the SCIAC Postseason Tournament Final to eight days prior, the Bulldogs advanced to the Sweet 16.
In that Sweet 16 game Carlson played 103 minutes against Calvin University who they tied 1-1 through 120 minutes. In penalty kicks both teams made their first three before Calvin converted their final two while the one Bulldog miss was the difference as they fell
5-3.
They finished the 2011 season with 87 team goals, second most in program history. Carlson scored or assisted on 17 of them. 13 of those goal contributions were his own with another four coming via his assists. In games in which he contributed a goal the Bulldogs went 11-1.
His most notable game in 2011 came against Whittier College when he scored a hat trick and led the Bulldogs to a 6-0 win.
Carlson finished his career with 31 goals, eighth in program history, 76 points, 10th, played in 85 games, eighth, and ranks 10th in points amongst the 20 members of the 15-goal, 10-assist club.
In the classroom he graduated in 2012 with his undergraduate degree in business administration. While competing for the Bulldogs he earned Redlands Scholar-Athlete and made the Dean’s List. In 2011 he was named a CoSIDA Academic All-District member and a NSCAA Scholar All-American. Later he completed his master’s degree in business management at the University of Redlands.
Today he serves as the Bulldog men’s soccer assistant coach, a position he has held since July 2018. In the six non-COVID seasons the Bulldogs have won 70 games overall and have
finished first or second in the regular season SCIAC standings in five of those six seasons.
In the offseason he serves as the head coach for Redlands FC, a United Soccer League 2 team.
