Friday Spotlight: Greg Fricke, Caltech Baseball

Name: Greg Fricke ‘00 
Institution: Caltech

Position: Shortstop/Catcher 

A two-time All-SCIAC selection playing the most important defensive positions on the diamond, Greg Fricke was unsurprisingly a four-time winner of the Alumni Baseball Trophy as the team’s most valuable player. By the time of his graduation, he had set program records for single-season hits and career hits, triples, and bases on balls. He also ranked second all-time in career RBI and single-season triples and tied for second in single-season home runs.  

The standout posted a career batting average of .389 and a slugging percentage of .611, connecting for 37 hits his senior season. 

Fricke was named Caltech Athletics’ Most Outstanding Athlete in 2000 for his stellar athletic contributions through his time as a Beaver. 

After graduating from the Institute, Fricke worked as an engineer with Boeing Satellite Systems for six years before pursuing his master’s degree and later earning his doctorate at Duke University, which led him to a Senior Engineer position as an Electromechanical Researcher at the LORD Corporation for almost nine years. Fricke now works at Beta Technologies, an aviation and aerospace manufacturing group. 

He was officially inducted into the Caltech Athletics Hall of Honor in 2022.
