Commissioner Jennifer Dubow announced the hiring of Rachel Rubio as Assistant Commissioner, effective August 10, 2026.
Rubio spent the past Spring as Assistant Sports Media Relations Manager at Loyola Marymount University, where she oversaw the communications and media relations efforts for the softball, women's basketball, women's tennis, and women's volleyball teams. Her responsibilities included press communications, statistical reporting, and digital and social media storytelling efforts that enhanced the visibility of LMU's student-athletes and programs.
Prior to Loyola Marymount, Rubio spent seven years at SCIAC insitution University of La Verne as a member of the softball team, Graduate Assistant Coach, and Athletic Communication Coordinator. As a player, she was a three-year captain and earned two First Team All-SCIAC selections. Rubio then transitioned to coaching with the Leopards during the 2023-24 academic year. Following the 2024-25 season in which she was a sports information graduate assistant for La Verne, Rubio stayed on as the Athletic Communications Coordinator.
"We are thrilled to welcome Rachel back to the SCIAC," Dubow said. "She brings exceptiontal experience in collegiate athletics, both as a former student-athlete and administrator, which will be an excellent asset as the SCIAC continues to elevate."
Rubio will oversee communications efforts including broadcast production, social media, statistics, archives and thesciac.org content management system. She will also assist with conference championships, governance and other operations.
"Returning to the SCIAC in this role is incredibly meaningful to me," Rubio said. "The SCIAC has been home throughout so much of my personal and professional journey—from competing as a student-athlete at the University of La Verne to beginning my career in athletic communications. I'm grateful for every experience that has led me here, and I'm excited to give back to a conference that has given me so much while supporting our member institutions and student-athletes."
Rubio holds a Master's degree in Leadership and Management and a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology, both from La Verne.
