Men's Track & Field All-SCIAC Awards: Kawakami-Williams (OXY), Cassidy (CMS) Athletes of Year

Occidental College's Shane Kawakami-Williams and Kaden Cassidy of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges garnered Track and Field Athlete of the Year distinction following the 2026 SCIAC Championship.

Kawakami-Williams won an individual title in the 100-meter dash, led the 4x100 Relay to another gold and picked up a bronze on the 4x400 Relay. The junior set a new wind-legal SCIAC record and tied the meet benchmark with a time of 10.43 and is ranked seventh in DIII in the 200m.

Cassidy three-peated as the hammer throw victor at the SCIAC Championship and has been the top-ranked hammer thrower in Division III with a season-best mark of 65.01 meters that is among the Top-10 in DIII history.

Fellow Stag Jack Paavola was named Newcomer of the Year after winning a gold medal in the discus with a season-best mark of 47.05 meters.

Caltech's Aaban Syed was presented the Dixon Farmer Award in acknowledgement of exemplifying the conference's high ideals including ability, leadership, determination, sportsmanship and sincerity of academic pursuit. Syed has held a 4.0 GPA while majoring in electrical engineering and minoring in biology, earning the Ford Scholar Award for best academic record at Caltech in the EE major. The senior's research experience includes combining electrical and molecular engineering for non-invasive imaging and control of biological systems, among other advanced projects while also serving as a teaching assistant, tutor and volunteer EMT at Huntington Hospital. A Caltech record-holder in the pole vault and unanimous team captain selection, Syed never fails to check in with and support teammates despite a busy schedule and will attend an MD/PhD program upon graduation seeking to further research in medical imagining and therapeutics.

Glenn Stewart and the Stags assistants were recognized as Coaching Staff of the Year after securing a fifth consecutive Championship title. The Stags won eight events and compiled another 11 All-Conference performances to win by 52.5 points.
