Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges lead the early standings over Caltech after the first day of the 2026 SCIAC Men’s Track & Field Championship.
A 1-2 finish in the hammer throw from
Kaden Cassidy and
Kavin Prasanna combined with a 3,000-meter steeplechase title for
Jacob Pippel gave CMS just the cushion it needed to come away with the lead. The Stags also benefited from a trio of runner-up finishes in
Diego Amescua (pole vault),
Cian Bryant (javelin) and
Jonathan Holcombe (long jump) as well as a bronze medal for
Charlie Routledge in the 10k.
Individual victories by
Tyler Gatewood and
Luke Lamitina in the high jump and javelin, respectively, have Caltech positioned in second place by just nine points thanks also to exceptional races from
Ryan Fortin (second, 10k) and
Stephen Goehringer (third, 3k steeplechase).
Stian Asper claimed gold in the 10k on the home track for third-place University of Redlands.
Nate Reinhard tied for second in the pole vault and
Christian Ferguson placed third in the hammer for the Bulldogs.
Emerson Ames took first place in the long jump for occidental while
Derek Amlicke of Chapman University set a new meet record as pole vault champion after
Asher Cleary had placed third in the high jump. Multi-sport star
Drew Nees was runner-up in the high jump and
Tyler Thomas won bronze in the long jump for California Lutheran, with Pomona-Pitzer Colleges ranking seventh thanks to a second-place 3k steeplechase from
Nate Wehner and third-place effort by
William Marquart in the javelin. The University of La Verne and Whittier College also got on the board on the first day.
