Pomona-Pitzer Colleges defeated the University of Mary Washington, 6-3, in the opening round of the 2026 NCAA Baseball Championship to move into the winner’s bracket.
A leadoff double by
Will Parker in the second inning led to an RBI single to open the scoring, though UMW equalized on a ground-rule double in the top of the third. The Eagles plated two more runs in the fifth inning on a bases-loaded single to move ahead, though the Sagehens pulled one back on an error in the bottom of the frame.
UMW stranded two runners in scoring position in the top of the sixth inning and it came back to haunt them immediately as two hit-by-pitches and a bunt single loaded the bases for a walk and two-RBI single to give the lead back to Pomona-Pitzer, 5-3. A
Kai Gonzaga solo shot in the eighth inning added an insurance tally before
Eli Della Bitta wrapped up the save after relieving
Max Brunngraber with two outs in the seventh.
Tanner DeGrazia ended the game 1-for-3 with three RBI while Della Bitta allowed just one hit and one walk in 2.1 innings pitched, with Brunngraber having struck out five over 6.2 innings.
