Three SCIAC women’s swimming & diving student-athletes have been named Academic All-America by the College Sports Communicators, including individual national champion
Madeleine Kan of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges to the First Team.

Francesca Coppo of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges was named to the Third Team.
Kan earned the national championship in the 100-yard butterfly and was second-team All-America in the 50 free (ninth). She graduated as the CMS record holder in the 50 free (22.93), 100 free (50.49) and 100 fly (53.57), and also finished with the fastest 50 free relay split (22.42) and 100 free relay split (49.03) ever at CMS, breaking the old 100 free split by over a second and a half (50.65). She was also part of program records in the 400 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay, and will graduate this spring from Harvey Mudd with around a 3.8 GPA in engineering.
Mayfield was a second-team All-American in the 200 fly (ninth) and the 100 fly (12th) this season for the Athenas, and earned All-America honors 14 times in all, including first-team in the 200 IM and 100 fly last year. She finished her ranked No. 2 in CMS history in the 200 fly (2:01.30) and the 200 IM (2:02.63), No. 3 in the 400 IM (4:26.93), No. 5 in the 100 breast (1:03.91), No. 6 in the 100 fly (55.01), and No. 10 in the 200 free (1:52.77) and 200 breast (2:21.77) She was also part of program records in the 400 free relay (3:25.70) and 800 free relay (7:28.93), and the No. 2 team in the 200 medley relay (1:04.21). She will graduate from Claremont McKenna this spring with around a 3.85 GPA in biology.
Coppo is the conference’s active career leader with 17 All-SCIAC nods after winning the 50 free, finishing runner-up in the 100 breast and swimming on three champion and another runner-up relay at the SCIAC Championships before placing eighth in the 50 free, third on the 400 Free Relay and fourth in the 200 Free Relay at NCAA’s.
