The 2026 SCIAC Women’s Lacrosse Tournament will begin on Wednesday, Apr. 29 at 7 p.m. with the semifinals between #1 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and #4 Chapman University while #2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges host #3 University of Redlands.
Tournament Central
The Sagehens secured a fifth straight regular season conference title with another unbeaten record in SCIAC play, boasting the league’s top defense that surrendered just 5.3 goals per game.
Cailey Broussea led the conference with a .477 save percentage splitting time in net with
Ruby Loesch and benefitted from the leadership of
Chloe Denhart and
Shelby Stanton ahead of them on defense, with Denhart leading the conference at 2.2 caused turnovers per game. Pomona-Pitzer regularly controlled games with just 129 turnovers while the Sagehens grabbed 241 ground balls and rookie
Maihue Miranda Wiltberger ranked second in the conference for draw controls at 9.7 per game, more than twice the third-place average. That focus on possession fed into the attack led by
Caili Cross who paced the offense ranking fourth in points (34) while
Madeleine Trapp dished out a league-best 23 assists.
Second-place CMS touted the conference’s highest-scoring offense including SCIAC points and goals leader
Amelia Ulmer, who along with
Ella Seidel and
Grace Minturn held the top three spots on the points leaderboard for a combined 127. Already the NCAA career draw controls record-holder as a junior,
Julia Ryan averaged an unheard-of 19.7 per game to ensure a steady supply for that ruthless attacking trio as the Athenas posted a .571 shot percentage.
Lyla Johnston ranked second in save percentage (.471) while CMS also held the honor of receiving the fewest cards of any team in the conference.
Redlands boasts a strong attack trio of its own in
April Bryant,
Ruby Czajkowski and
Emily Webster while
Courtney Myers ranked third in save percentage (.458) stopping 7.6 shots per game (second in SCIAC). The Bulldogs played the Sagehens to one- and three-goal defeats but did not fare as well against the Athenas. Their effort was rarely matched as Redlands caused just two fewer turnovers than Pomona-Pitzer and ranked second with 209 ground balls.
Chapman ended up with the #4 seed on tiebreaker after splitting with Redlands, falling by seven goals on Mar. 14 though took the more recent Apr. 4 matchup at home by two. Do-it-all
Zoey Stephens tied for first in the conference in both ground balls (2.9) and caused turnovers (2.2) per game while also tying for fourth in points (34).
The final game will be played on Saturday, May 2 on the campus of the highest remaining seed.
