Lorena Caulfield transferred to Cal Lutheran from Glendale Community College in 1992 to run track and train to be an athletic trainer.
As an athletic trainer., Caulfield worked closely with then head basketball coach Mike Dunlap, saying he and all the coaches gave her massive levels of respect as a student trainer.
In her years since donning the purple and gold singlet in Thousand Oaks, Caulfield has been an athletic trainer and teacher of sports medicine at Newbury Park High School for over two decades. She has also spent time as an assistant athletic trainer at Cal Lutheran under head trainer Kecia Davis, the same trainer she worked for as a student.
Caulfield attributes her success to Davis and Cal Lutheran, saying it was her connection to Davis that helped her get her current job at Newbury Park and that the school was the perfect situation for her. She said that stepping on campus immediately felt like home.
Caulfield said that being able to foster and study her passion as a trainer gave her the motivation to pursue it, and that Cal Lutheran gave her the unique ability to hone and pursue her “calling”.
