Women's Basketball Tournament: Regals Advance Over Panthers

The second-seeded California Lutheran Unievrsity Regals held the upper hand in all four quarters on their home court to advance to the 2025 SCIAC Women's Basketball Tournament final over Chapman University.

The last two SCIAC Newcomers of the Year, Alline Ballard and Janna Holley, each cleared the 20-point threshold while the former also grabbed a tournament record-tying 19 rebounds in the 83-69 victory. Sara Mills also contributed 15 points, with an historic ninth coming on a wide-open three-point look in front of the home bench to clear 1,000 career points. CLU won the rebounding battle with a margin of plus-20 and hit 74 percent on a whopping 26-of-35 free throws.

The Regals had secured hosting rights for the semifinal matchup with room to spare after compiling an 11-5 record that left the Regals two games ahead of third-place Chapman yet three behind regular season champion Whittier College.

The hosts jumped ahead early and turned away a series of Panther runs throughout the night. Shanna Brown led all scorers with 28 points and completed the double-double with 11 boards.

Cal Lutheran will head to top-seeded Whittier with the SCIAC Tournament title and NCAA Championship automatic qualifier bid on the line this Saturday, Mar. 1 at 5 p.m.
