Jack Stein led Pomona-Pitzer Colleges to another conference title while earning both Athlete of the Year and the Ray Adkinson Award recognition.
Brennan Tobin of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps was the top rookie finisher at the SCIAC Championship, crossing the line in ninth place to garner Newcomer of the Year honors.
Stein also received the Ray Adkinson Award, named after the initial conference champion from Pomona College in 1915. It recognizes the senior athlete who best exemplifies the conference’s high ideals through their ability, leadership, determination, sportsmanship and academics. A biology major with a 3.835 grade-point average, Stein set a new program record of 23:45 at UC Riverside before breaking the Pomona-Pitzer course record at the Championship meet. A constant positive influence on his teammates as a senior captain who led the squad to form a strong bond and inclusive culture that supports each team member, he has also worked at Cal Berkeley studying the ubiquitin proteasome system (UPS), a cellular pathway responsible for protein degradation related to cancer and neurogenerative and immune disorders.
Amber Williams,
Emma DeLira and the Pomona-Pitzer staff were named the Coaching Staff of the Year after leading the Sagehens to a fifth consecutive conference title. All five scorers placed among the top 10 with another two making the All-Conference Second Team.
