"This installment of the Alumni Spotlight series focuses on James Blackwood (‘16) and his contributions to Caltech Men’s Water Polo and Caltech Athletics.

Though he graduated in 2016, Blackwood still holds an incredible three program records in the sport. In 2015 he set the program record for single-season assists with 53 and in a game with six, the latter value tying a record set by Adam Kham. Blackwood amassed 155 assists in his Caltech career, still the most by any Beaver.
Blackwood was inducted into the Caltech Hall of Honor earlier this year.

“My years playing water polo at Caltech were the highlight of my time in Pasadena,” Blackwood said upon his induction. “The team camaraderie and competitive spirit we shared, while juggling the academic demands we all faced, made every fall water polo season really memorable. Looking back, those team bonds and athletic experiences are what I cherish most from my Caltech years.”

After graduating from Caltech in 2016, Blackwood worked as a risk analyst at investment funds in Orange County and New York City for several years. He now works as a researcher and consultant in the energy industry in Houston, Texas. "
