In the midst of an era of change for the Whittier College men's and women's cross country teams, senior Cameron Riccio has been an agent of stability within the program. Riccio has grown not only into a team leader over his time at Whittier, but also a historically relevant runner in a program with deep history.

Riccio came to Whittier from the DMV area, attending Alexandria City High School, formerly known as T.C. Williams High School — the same school featured in the 2000 Walt Disney Pictures film, Remember the Titans. He immediately left his mark on the program, competing in the Purple & Gold alongside teammate Kiyoshi Todd for a rebuilding Poets program in the aftermath of the retirement of legendary Head Coach Greg Phillips.

Under new Head Coach Kathy Graham in 2024, Riccio's development as a distance runner began to take off, culminating last season with a personal-best 25:47.0 at last year's SCIAC Championships to finish 19th and earn him Second Team All-SCIAC recognition. That time still stands as a personal best for the senior, which also places him ninth all time in Whittier history. This year, Riccio leads a larger Poets' squad into the SCIAC Championships, and one that is looking to post its best team finish since Benjamin White '22, the greatest distance athlete in school history, last competed.

After graduation, Riccio plans on building on his chemistry by attending a graduate program to obtain his Master's in a related field.
