Cubel is among the most impressive two-way players to come through the Whittier women’s basketball program, as well as one of the most impressive human beings off the court. The talented guard found herself at the center of a turnaround for the program under Head Coach Roy Dow, and had a huge impact for the Poets from the moment she joined the team. She earned Whittier Freshman Athlete of the Year honors on the women’s side, in part, for starting every game heading up the Poets’ talented back court. Her 2016-17 season also saw her average 11.3 points points per game while playing 27.6 minutes per game. Alongside Carly Buechler ’17, Cubel anchored the Poets’ defense in Dow’s first season as head coach.

From there, Cubel went on to post consistent numbers across all seasons while entrenched in the Poets’ starting five. As her defensive metrics began to spike in ensuing seasons, Cubel went on to be named to Second Team All-SCIAC as a junior, and First Team All-SCIAC as a senior. Her senior numbers saw her average a career-best 13.8 points per game, along with 2.4 rebounds per game and 2.0 assists per game. She also knocked down at least 20 three-pointers for the third time in her career and even hit the 1,000-point milestone in a game against North Central College on December 30, 2019. In doing so, she became the seventh player in program history at the time to hit 1,000.

Cubel graduated Whittier in 2020 with a degree in Sports Management and continues to involve herself with the game of basketball today. She currently works as an assistant coach with Cal Sparks South, a program designed tor provide a platform for aspiring players looking to compete in Nike’s Elite Youth Basketball League, Cal Sparks Gold or National teams. The program is NCAA affiliated, and features athletes from 29 different high schools from around Southern California.
