Officials' Appreciation Week is celebrated during distinct weeks in the fall, winter and spring sport seasons. This spring celebration runs from Apr. 7-13.
The commitment of the SCIAC officials and referees to safe, fair and competitive contests is a critical part of the student-athlete experience.
"Officials are essential to our ability to conduct fair and safe competition in Division III," Commissioner Jenn Dubow said. "It is often a thankless job, but we need to correct that and be mindful of the effort and passion officials put into every contest. It can be a very rewarding experience and I encourage anyone with a background or interest in sport to explore officiating as a way to be more connected to their passion and help enhance the experience of our phenomenal student-athletes."
Officials Appreciation Week is one of numerous initiatives that are being implemented as part of the Division III Commissioners Association (DIIICA) Strategic Plan for Collegiate Officiating that was created as a result of the DIIICA’s Strategic Analysis of the State of Collegiate Officiating. In conjunction with the NCAA and the National Association of Sports Officials, there is an urgent need for sportds officials.
