Becker joined the conference office in the Fall of 2022 after eight years at member institution Caltech, where he served as Assistant A.D. for Internal Operations and External Affairs in addition to Senior Compliance Officer after joining the Beavers in 2014 as the Director of Sports Information and Marketing. Prior to Caltech, he worked in sports information for Division II Mercy College and DIII Stevens Institute of Technology, in addition to assisting with events at St. John's, Manhattanville College, SUNY Purchase and the College of New Rochelle.
In his role with the SCIAC, Becker assists in all aspects of conference administration including governance and running committee meetings, championships and communications strategy. He has spearheaded quarterly calls with campus gameday operations and compliance officers, in addition to stewarding all SAAC and various efforts, and manages social media and the website.
Becker has experience in nearly every facet of intercollegiate athletics administration including direct supervision of athletic training, equipment management and sports information offices. While working within one of the most ambitious rebuilding projects in all of college athletics at Caltech, he helped improve the department-wide team winning percentage from just over 10 percent to 40 percent while narrowing the All-Sport Standing gap from last place to eighth by 220 percent. He developed a campus-wide sophomore leadership program that included facilitators from various departments throughout the Insitute and oversaw team leadership development curriculae. He also taught Physical Education classes in golf, swimming and tennis. He has supervised full- and part-time employees of all age and experience levels, including four former assistants or interns who are now full-time directors of sports information and others working in professional sports or other capacities.
Becker currently serves as chair of the NCAA DIII Financial Aid Committee as well as Vice Chair of the DIII Assistant Commissioners group, the NADIIIA Communications Committee, the DIIIACG Strategic Communications committee and the NCAA leadership program selection committee. He is the current West Region RAC representative for men's tennis and has served on men's soccer. He has previously served on the DIII/USA Water Polo inaugural championship committee and College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Core and Publications committees.
In his sports information capacities, Becker managed the Hall of Honor process from nominations to the annual celebration event, expanded livestreaming to include every home event for all sports (including the first outdoor four-court tennis stream in DIII), successfully nominated a school-record number of CoSIDA Academic All-America and conference Athlete of the Week recipients, increased website traffic by over 500 percent, improved social media engagement from last in the conference to second and generate key local and national television, radio and print media coverage in the nation's two most saturated media markets.
Becker has also taught sports management and communications courses as an Adjunct Professor, coached swimming & diving and soccer at the youth and high school levels and worked in public relations capacities with professional organizations such as the Western & Southern Open tennis tournament and New York Red Bulls Major League Soccer franchise. He also volunteers on the grant writing and fundraising committee for Pug Nation Rescue LA, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to the rescue, care and placement of pugs, and teaches community golf and swimming lessons.
Originally from Ft. Thomas, Ky., Becker attended school in Cincinnati, Ohio and New York City, N.Y. and resides in Los Angeles. He holds master's degrees in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University and Sports Management from St. John's University after earning a bachelor's degree in Communications (Journalism) and Business from Fordham University and is pursuing a doctorate in Sports Education Leadership from Concordia University, Chicago.
