CMS Chosen First in SCIAC Women's Cross Country Preseason Poll

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) registered eight first place votes and 79 of a possible 81 total points and was selected first in the 2017 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Women's Cross Country Preseason Coaches Poll following a vote conducted by the league's women's cross country head coaches. 

Coming off its seventh straight SCIAC championship, CMS sits atop the SCIAC Preseason Poll, while Pomona-Pitzer (66 points) and Occidental (65 points) finished second and third with the Sagehens receiving the other nod for a top finish.

Whittier placed fourth with 50 points ahead of Redlands in fifth with 46 points, while Caltech narrowly edged La Verne, 32-28 for sixth place. Chapman and Cal Lutheran picked up 23 and 16 points respectively to secure eighth and ninth place in the vote. 

The Athenas will look to senior Bryn McKillop (23:31.25) and junior Malea Martin (23:36.19) who each finished in the top 10 in last year's conference championship race helping CMS claim its 26th overall SCIAC title.

CMS also won the SCIAC Multi-Duals with an 8-0 mark in 2016, while Pomona-Pitzer (7-1) and Occidental (6-2) followed in second and third.

All nine SCIAC teams will be in action at the 2017 SCIAC Multi-Duals on Friday, September 29 at La Mirada Park in La Mirada, Calif. with the SCIAC Championship slated for Saturday, October 28 at Prado Park in Chino Hills, Calif.
