Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) fell to Washington University (Mo.), 2-1 in overtime in the third round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship at Francis Field in St. Louis, Mo.
With the loss, CMS concludes its 2019 campaign, 11-5-4 overall, while Wash U improves to 18-1-2 and advances to the round of eight.
After a scoreless first 45 minutes that saw just one shot on goal, CMS struck first in the second half as Katrina Ostrom found the back of the net on a pass from Sarah Tocher in the 61st minute to make it 1-0.
Wash U responded three minutes later as Gabby Cesarone headed in a cross from Katy Mockett to level the score at 1-1.
With neither team able to find the winning goal before the end of regulation, the sides needed an extra stanza to settle the contest. The Bears logged three shots in the first period of overtime before Taylor Cohen headed in a corner kick service in the 98th minute to give Wash U the thrilling win.
Tocher and Ostrom provided the Athenas' two shots on frame Emma Greenfield made one save in the win for the Bears. CMS goalkeeper Cam Hamsom made three saves in the losing effort for the Athenas.
