PASADENA, Calif. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) has named 1488 student-athletes to the 2015-16 All-Academic Team. Those honored include 86 student-athletes competing in two or more sports bringing the total recognition to 1574 roster positions. 

The SCIAC All-Academic Team recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a grade point average of 3.40 or higher and must have completed one full calendar year at their current institution. SCIAC student-athletes demonstrate the NCAA Division-III philosophy enabling a full collegiate experience, beyond the arena of competition and the classroom.

The Claremont Colleges took the top spots in the number of student-athletes earning All-Academic honors across all 21 SCIAC-sponsored sports. Pomona-Pitzer Colleges led all institutions with 310 honorees and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges followed with 201 honorees. Chapman University (195), the University of Redlands (189) and California Lutheran University (137) rounded out the top five.

Prior to the 2015-16 academic year, the All-Academic Team was announced three times per year, once per season, and freshmen and first-year transfer student-athletes were not eligible. With the inclusion of first year student-athletes the total number of student-athlete recognition has increased. Football has maintained the top spot of all sports, this year claiming 141 honors for their work in the classroom. Women’s soccer has once again owned the No. 2 spot of all sports with 125 honors going to performances off the pitch.
