Henderson led the conference in on-base plus slugging percentage at 1.343, scoring 34 runs (second) and driving in 33 (tied-second) while also tying for the league lead with 11 home runs.
Holguin, who became the sport’s second Newcomer of the Year after California Lutheran University’s
Jake Petersen in 2013 to also earn an Athlete of the Year distinction, posted a conference-best 6-1 record with a league-low 2.35 ERA, allowing just a .206 batting average with 38 strikeouts in 46.0 innings pitched.
Caltech’s
Aidan Hamner was presented with the Character Award recognizing a senior who exemplifies success on the diamond, in the classroom and with involvement in community and school service. A mechanical engineering major with minors in aerospace engineering and English, Hamner has been a steady and reliable presence on the team while also contributing strong defense at catcher and first base but most importantly bringing energy, positivity and authenticity to the Beavers. An NCAA Impact Forum participant, head waiter for Fleming House, ARC and SAAC representative, and member of the Caltech Chamber Singers, Hamner has demonstrated a willingness to lead, serve and connect both across campus and the conference. The senior has conducted a SURF at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, interned at the NASA Langley Research Center and will pursue a PhD in aerospace engineering at Georgia Tech.
Aaron Holley and the University of Redlands dugout were named Coaching Staff of the Year after leading the conference standings for much of the season. Four Bulldogs earned All-Conference selections as Redlands outperformed its run differential of just 14, which ranked fifth in the conference while Holley’s squad secured the #3 seed with a 15-9 record.
CMS led all teams with six total selections, five of which made the First Team while Pomona-Pitzer was a close second with five picks. Redlands garnered four honorees, followed by Chapman University, the University of La Verne and Whittier College each with three. Occidental College landed two First Team members and California Lutheran University earned two Second Team distinctions.
La Verne catcher
Nathan Perry joined an exclusive club of four-time First Team honorees as the conference's top backstop over an entire career.
Dillon Martin could be on the same track now with three First Team honors in as many seasons while Henderson repeated on the First Team.
Bryce Didrickson (CMS) and Occidental's
Thomas Munch each stepped up from the Second Team last spring while
Greg Pierantoni returned to the All-Conference picture for Pomona-Pitzer after a one-year hiatus.
