Women's Soccer All-SCIAC: Pomona-Pitzer's Bailey and Cal Lutheran's French Earn Top Honors

Brooke Bailey of Pomona-Pitzer and Tessa French of California Lutheran have earned the 2026 Women's Soccer All-SCIAC's top honors as Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Year, respectively.

Bailey is now the fourth consecutive Sagehen to be selected as the Offensive Athlete of the Year, joining Hannah Hong ('24 and '25) and Ella Endo ('23). The senior forward posted a league-best 10 goals in conference play, with a goal in all but three SCIAC matches. Four of those goals proved to be game-winners, which also led the conference. It is Bailey's first time being honored as an All-SCIAC player after previously appearing in 58 matches coming into her fourth season.

On the defensive side of the ball, French bolstered a strong Regals backline, which allowed just six goals against conference opponents. The Lake Oswego, Ore., native started all 19 matches this year and helped record a shutout in 11 of those contests. French also ranks third on the team in minutes played, having seen the field for all 90 minutes in five tilts.

Amongst first-years, Avni Udupa was highlighted as the Newcomer of the Year, having seen the field in 16 of 18 matches, and starting in nine. The forward out of Minnetonka, Minn., finished the regular season with three goals and two assists against SCIAC opponents, including a game winner against Whittier and a two-goal performance against La Verne. Her eight points and 13 shots on goal in conference play both ranked in the top-10 in the SCIAC.

Vivian Rojas Collins, now a four-time All-SCIAC player, was honored with the Award of Distinction following an outstanding display of character this season. The award recognizes a senior SCIAC soccer athlete for exemplary achievements through their higher education experience. A senior team captain, Rojas Collins has also shined off the field as a neuroscience major and having studied neurodegenerative diseases at the University of Minnesota through the Pomona College Internship Prorgram. The Minneapolis, Minn., native is currently on the pre-med track and plans to attend medical school.

For the first time since 2017, Frank Marino and the Regals staff have been named the Coaching Staff of the Year after claiming the SCIAC regular season title with an unbeaten 10-0-2 conference record. As a team, Cal Lutheran led the conference in several categories including total shots, goals scored, and goal margin. In the regular season finale, the Regals defeated Pomona-Pitzer at home to claim the top seed of the SCIAC Tournament. This is now Marino's sixth time earning a regular season championship since he took over in 2009.

The Regals and Sagehens had seven and six players tabbed for all-conference, respectively, with each team earning five first team spots. The Athenas claimed six all-conference players, split evenly on first and second team. Chapman and Occidental rounded out the first team with one player each, though the Tigers saw four total players earned All-SCIAC honors, while the Panthers had three. Both La Verne and Caltech also tallied one player on the second team.

The SCIAC Women's Soccer Tournament is set to continue tonight with the semi-finals. No. 1 Cal Lutheran will play host to No. 5 Chapman, while No. 2 Pomona-Pitzer will take on No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at home. The final will be hosted by the highest seeded remaining instution on Saturday, November 7, at a time to be determined.
