A 17th-minute goal proved enough for No. 2 Emory University to hold on for the victory against No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship.
The Eagles held the advantage in shots over the course of the game, 19-14 and 8-4 on goal, though were whistled for 12 fouls to the Sagehens' five. Once Emory packed the defense into the box for the second half, Pomona-Pitzer could not get another shot on target after the 54th minute.
Haldey Johnson was up to the task of keeping the margin within reach as the senior made six saves in the second half for Pomona-Pitzer.
