NCAA Tournament: Panthers Topple Whitworth in Pacific Northwest

RV Chapman University flew to a familiar matchup at RV Whitworth University and built up a first-half lead that proved to be the difference in escaping with a victory, 18-16, in the first round of the NCAA Football Championship.

After a scoreless first quarter, the visitors gained a 9-7 lead by halftime and regained the edge after the hosts hit a field goal in the third quarter. Kade Zimmerman scored both touchdowns as part of an eight-catch, 120-yard day. Andrew Latu and Fischer Huss combined for 183 yards on 29 carries as the Panthers looked to control the clock, leading to a seven-minute advantage in time of possession. Defensive back Jacob Gaudi starred on defense with a team-high 11 tackles, one of two sacks and one of two interceptions, with Miles Grossman nabbing the other.

Chapman will travel to No. 3 University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Saturday, Nov. 29 for a 10 a.m. PT kickoff.
