Cal Lutheran women's soccer (15-3-2, 9-2-1 SCIAC) defeated 1-seed Pomona-Pitzer (14-1-3, 9-0-3 SCIAC) on the road in the SCIAC Tournament Championship, taking home the program's first SCIAC Tournament Title since 2011 and the third in Cal Lutheran history. The Regals scored a pair of goals in an eight-minute span and held on for a 2-1 victory.

Pomona-Pitzer entered today's contest without a loss all season, ranked #7 in the most recent NPI. Cal Lutheran wasn't far behind at #16, making the conference title game a clash of national heavyweights. The Regals lost their SCIAC opener to the Sagehens by a score of 2-1 back on September 17 despite leading for over 70 minutes in that match.

CMS stands at 13-3-3 on the year, and was one of three SCIAC teams to earn a bid. Pomona-Pitzer was the regular season champion, while Cal Lutheran won the SCIAC Tournament and will play in a regional hosted by Trinity (Texas).

All three of the Athenas' losses came to either Cal Lutheran or Pomona-Pitzer, while tying both foes one time as well. CMS fell 2-1 at Cal Lutheran in the regular season, and again by 2-1 in the SCIAC Semifinals, while playing the Regals to a 0-0 tie at home. The Athenas fell at home to Pomona-Pitzer 1-0 on a late goal, and then played the Sagehens to a 0-0 tie on the road.

A year ago, CMS qualified for the NCAA Tournament and dropped a 1-0 decision to Colby in a game hosted by MIT. The Athenas previous NCAA bid was in 2019, when they received an at-large despite not qualifying for the SCIAC Tournament, before going on to win the regional at Cal Lutheran (beating Emory 2-1 and the host Regals on penalty kicks). CMS eventually fell in the Round of 16 to WashU, matching the deepest tournament advancement in program history.
