Tigers Win SCIAC Women's Basketball Tournament, Earn NCAA AQ

The third-seeded Occidental College Tigers kept winning with a 66-58 victory over top-seeded California Lutheran University to claim the SCIAC Tournament Championship on Saturday evening. 

The Tigers first knocked off second-seeded University of La Verne en route to claim their first Tournament Championship since 2011. Toni Thompson led all scorers with 25 points going 9-20 from the floor and 7-12 from the line and added 13 rebounds. The All-SCIAC First Team selection was named the Tournament Most Outstanding Player. Paige Yasukochi added 11 points while Dominique Cabading and Dara Tokeshi each hit double-digits with 10 points.

The Tigers took a slight lead into halftime 34-32 over the Regals and pushed the lead to almost 20 before CLU chipped away at the lead to make it a battle down the stretch. The fourth quarter was a defensive battle as Annie Ballard led the Regals with 20 points and 10 rebounds. 

Oxy will await its NCAA Championship fate, which the Tigers will learn on Monday, Feb. 26 at 11:30 PST via the Selection Show on NCAA.com.
