Three SCIAC men's soccer student-athletes have been named Academic All-America by the College Sports Communicators, with Caltech's Etienne Casanova honored on the First Team.

CSC Release

Casanova collected Region X Second Team honors after posting a brilliant season on the pitch. The star finished the 2024 campaign with a team-high 12 goals to tie the program record for goals in a season — a record which had gone unmatched for 54 years. His 11 goals scored against official opponents this year landed him second among all players in the conference during the regular season, just one behind the SCIAC Men's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Year winner. Four of Casanova's 12 goals were game-winners.

Rafael Otero of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges and Phillip Kostenko of the University of Redlands also were recognized on the Second and Third Team, respectively. Otero earned third-team All-America honors from the United Soccer Coaches, after a year in which he led the Stags to a 16-4-3 record and into the NCAA Round of 16, matching its deepest NCAA Tournament run since 1985 (along with the 2019 team). He had 13 goals and six assists on the season, for a team-high 32 points, while earning first-team All-SCIAC and first-team All-Region X honors.

Kostenko adds to his award haul this fall after being named First Team All-SCIAC and the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Year. He finished the season with a team-high 12 goals and 31 points thanks to an additional seven assists. Five of his goals proved to be game-winners. He finished his career with 26 goals and 12 assists for 64 points. His 26 goals are the 13th-most in program history and he ranks 13th in the career 15 goal/10 assist club.
