The #3 seed Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges Athenas claimed their first SCIAC Women's Soccer Tournament crown since 2016 and the conference's NCAA Championship automatic qualifier bid with a 1-0 victory over top-seeded No. 13 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Saturday afternoon.

The Athenas had their foot on the gas from the start, outshooting the Sagehens 11-4 and forcing First Team All-SCIAC Patricia DePalma into seven saves while Sadie Brown was called upon to make just two. CMS finally jumped ahead just five minutes into the second half when SCIAC assists leader Riley Zitar sent a looping ball into the box where Tournament Most Outstanding Athlete Emma Fogg got a head onto it for the 1-0 lead.

The Sagehens built up pressure throughout the remainder of the game but could not break through despite several dangerous balls finding their way into the box. 

The Athenas and Sagehens, ranked seventh entering the day in the new NCAA Power Index, will await the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. Pacific Time (2 p.m. ET).
