The SCIAC Tournament will expand from four qualifying teams to five in sports with nine sponsoring institutions beginning with the fall 2024 season. This includes baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, volleyball and men's and women's water polo.
Expansion from four to five teams will raise the conference postseason access ratio from 44 to 55 percent in an effort to provide a more equitable championship experience across sports. All sponsored sports now provide a highly competitive culminating season experience for which at least half of participating teams can qualify.
The conference's Athletic Administrators and Presidents voted to approve the expansion during the past year after an extensive review of both internal data and national trends. Teams were informed of the decision before the conclusion of the 2023-24 academic year.
Expanded tournaments now will consist of an early week First Round matchup between the #4 and #5 seeds. The winner will move on to face the #1 seed in a semifinal, while the #2 vs. #3 semifinal matchup remains unchanged. All SCIAC Tournament and Championship dates can be viewed
