Fred Roggin opened the top of the 2 p.m. hour asking Dubow what the state of officiating is across Division III nationally. Dubow explained that over 60,000 officials retired since the pandemic and far more are retiring or leaving the position annually than are entering the pathway to Division III, which can take as many as seven years. She also explained various reasons why officials leave the profession, which include negative or unsportsmanlike treatment by fans and low pay, both which the SCIAC has recently taken steps to address by approving a four-year pay increase for the first time ever as well as participating in the NCAA/Disney Institute Gameday the DIII Way facilitator training for a second time in five years. The Division III Commissioners Association also recently launched the Say Yes To Officiating campaign to celebrate officials and encourage new officials to join the profession - more information can be found at https://www.sayyestoofficiating.com/.

"Roggin & Rodney" runs Weekdays from 12-3 p.m. on the Home of Dodgers radio serving greater Los Angeles and much of Southern California.
