First-year swimmer Emily Szopa has started off her collegiate career strong, specializing in the freestyle and butterfly strokes. Szopa has consistently found her way near or at the top of race results. At the Redlands Pentathlon, Szopa was selected as the Pentathlon Champion. Szopa's strength as a swimmer has been made evident with her five of six individual dual meet race wins so far this season. At the Oxy Invite just before Thanksgiving, she was the 100 Yard Butterfly Champion (57.08) and swam the second leg of the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team that set a new school record (3:29.94).

Outside of athletics, Szopa is an economics major pursuing a minor in biochemistry. Her interests have led her to be a member of Women of Economics and Sustainable Oxy Citizens clubs on campus.  With a strong sense of community and interest in sustainability, Szopa hobbies include beekeeping, gardening, hiking, and playing chess.  Post-Oxy, she plans to attend law school.
