SCIAC Men's Soccer All-Conference Honors Announced
The 2021 All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Men's Soccer teams were announced Tuesday following a vote conducted by the league's member head coaches.
Chapman forward Aidan Wall was voted the SCIAC Offensive Athlete of the Year after helping the Panthers secure an 8-8-0 overall record and a 7-5-0 mark in conference play en route to earning the fourth seed in the upcoming SCIAC Postseason Tournament. Wall led the Panthers and SCIAC with 10 goals and 20 points in league action during the 2021 campaign, highlighted by six game-winning goals. The senior from Redwood City, Calif. registered a hat trick in a 4-1 win over La Verne on September 25 and added two-goal games against Caltech (October 6) and Redlands (October 13).
SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Year honors went to Redlands' defensive midfielder Arian Mogharei. Mogharei helped pace the Bulldogs to a 13-2-1 overall ledger, 9-2-1 in SCIAC, and the second seed in the conference tournament. Mogharei was a staple in the Bulldogs' midfield helping Redlands secure four clean sheets in 2021. He was also an offensive spark as he logged six points on the strength of two goals and two assists during the conference slate.
Pomona-Pitzer's Kyle Lau was tabbed the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year. The first-year forward tied for the team lead in goals versus SCIAC foes with four and added two assists en route to 10 points. Lau finished his debut campaign with 28 shots, 11 on goal, and converted a penalty kick.
Parker McDonald of Whittier was voted the SCIAC Award of Distinction recipient. McDonald was a captain that played every minute for the Poets for almost four years because of his leadership skills and immense character. Parker lost his mother this summer who had been struggling with colon cancer for the last five years. He still managed to get a 3.8 GPA while working part-time, taking care of his younger brother and sister, and volunteering for a local youth soccer organization. He's been accepted into a graduate program and will begin chiropractic college in the spring.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) head coach Ryan Fahey and the Stags' staff were voted the SCIAC Coaching Staff of the Year. Fahey led CMS to a 13-1-3 overall record and a 10-0-2 mark in SCIAC play and the top seed in the SCIAC Tournament as the Stags became the first team in program history to end the regular season undefeated against Division III competition.
