SCIAC Men's Swimming & Diving All-Conference Announced
The 2020 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Men's Swimming & Diving All-Conference awards were announced Tuesday, following a vote conducted by the league's head coaches during the final day of the conference championships.
For the second time in as many years, the SCIAC Swimmer of the Year was earned by California Lutheran's junior AJ Nybo. Nybo helped the Kingsmen to a third place finish in the team standings following the 2020 SCIAC Championships with 629 total points. Nybo opened the meet by swimming the third leg on Cal Lutheran's second place 200-yard medley relay team that finished with a time of 1:30.54. He was also the anchor leg of the 800-yard freestyle relay team that clocked a third place time of 6:47.01. On day two, he broke his own meet record in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:49.27. The third day of action saw the junior place second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 48.79, before he helped his team as the third leg of the second place 400-yard medley relay squad that registered a time of 3:18.86. Nybo concluded the championship with an individual win in the 200-yard butterfly with a new meet record time of 1:47.49.
Senior Kendall Hollimon of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) was named the 2020 SCIAC Diver of the Year after winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards for the fourth consecutive season. At the 2020 championship, Hollimon posted a score of 484.00 on the 1-meter board - winning the event by a margin of 33.65 points. He followed that score with a 532.40 in the 3-meter competition and won the event by 39.8 for a combined score of 1016.4 points.
For the third straight season, a Pomona-Pitzer first-year was named the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year. First-year Sagehen Anzo DeGiulio earned the distinction in 2020 after helping Pomona-Pitzer to 1,064 points and a second place finish, just 14 points behind CMS. In his first championship race, DeGiulio helped the Sagehens' 800-yard freestyle relay to a top finish with a new meet and SCIAC record time of 6:38.30. On day two, DeGiulio picked up his first individual win of the meet in the 50-yard freestyle as he clocked a top time of 20.71. He later led off the team's winning 200-yard freestyle relay as Pomona-Pitzer logged a time of 1:22.10. Day three saw the first-year place second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:39.50, before he swam the final leg of the 400-yard medley relay helping the Sagehens set a new meet record with a time of 3:16.53. On the final day of competition, he led off Pomona-Pitzer's 400-yard freestyle relay team which won the event with a top time of 3:01.55.
