Matias Lazo-Fanning is a four-year midfielder on the men's soccer team. During his first year with the Bulldogs, he went from having no uniform to becoming a significant contributor late in the season. He appeared in all SCIAC Postseason Tournament games and three of four games during the team's run to the Elite 8 of the 2016 NCAA Championships. Since then, he has stepped up his role with consistent contributions in the midfield due to his relentless work ethic and steady perseverance.
On campus, he has been a resident hall community advisor for three years. He has spent time with Roots & Shoots and CHAMPS, volunteer groups that mentor children in Redlands on topics ranging from homework to sustainable environmental practices. Lazo-Fanning is also a part of the Oaxacan Dance Group and PiChi Fraternity. He is double majoring in Sociology/Anthropology and Studio Art with hopes of working in urban development. Lazo-Fanning shines in the classroom as a Redlands Scholar-Athlete and member of the SCIAC All-Academic team.
