Johnston set a program record with nine goals in one game while racking up 14 goals, eight assists, seven exclusions drawn and three field blocks as Caltech opened the season with four games in Minnesota. The rookie led the Beavers to their first win since 2012 in an 18-13 victory over host Macalaster College in the final game of the tournament. Johnston was a three-time All-Easy Bay Athletic League and All-North Coast Section honoree in high school and led her club team to the Junior Olympics from 2011-14.
Kailee Severt, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

The CMS women's basketball team won their third-consecutive SCIAC Tournament Championship on Saturday beating Cal Lutheran 75-48. In the championship game, the team's leading scorer on the season, Kailee Severt, did not disappoint. Severt led all players with 18 points going 7-for-12 from the field. She kick-started the team in the first quarter scoring eight of the team's 18 points. In the semifinal game, Severt scored seven points and recorded a big block in the second quarter when the Athenas pulled away from Redlands, eventually winning 70-47.
