On a night full of hard fought action in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Postseason Tournament semifinal matches California Lutheran University and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps will advance to face-off on Saturday, October 5.
Cal Lutheran went just three sets at home against Pomona-Pitzer, (25-9, 25-19 25-20). The Regals' offensive was led by Michelle Lawrence and Hope Stewart. Lawrence claimed 12 of her team's 41 kills while Stewart owned 10. Defensively Nicki Tetherow put on a show with 17 digs on the night.
Pomona-Pitzer sparked in the second and third closing the lead each set. Vicki Addo-Ashong put down a team high 8 kills of the Sagehens 32 total. Julia Zwaal does it all for the Sagehens with 7 kills and 9 digs in the match.
Clarmont-Mudd-Scripps claimed their spot in the conference postseason tournament allowing the University of La Verne just one set in their 3-1 win. Set one went to the Leopards 29-27 with CMS taking the last three (25-23, 25-19, 25-16). The Athenas recorded 57 kills with Shelbi Stein claiming 18, Margaux Arntson 13 and Nicole Kerkhof 12. Mikena Werner led CMS's defensive efforts posting 22 of the Athenas 76 digs.
A trio of offense propelled the Leopards efforts. Recently name SCIAC Athlete of the Year Kelsi Robinson and Delaney Lynch each went for 13 kills and Marissa Rojo added 12 to the 52 recorded for La Verne.
Cal Lutheran as the No. 1 seed entering the tournament will host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the SCIAC Tournament championship on Saturday.
