CMS Advances Past Pomona-Pitzer in NCAA Women's Tennis Regional Final

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) women's tennis team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) rival Pomona-Pitzer, 5-0 in Saturday afternoon's NCAA Division III Championship Regional final at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, Calif.

With the win, CMS improves to 26-2 overall and advances to the NCAA Championship Quarterfinals where it will take on the winner of Tufts and MIT on May 21 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, Calif. Pomona-Pitzer concludes its season 15-8 overall. 

In doubles, CMS secured all three points Lindsay Brown and Nicole Tan defeated Maryann Zhao and Arianna Chen, 8-5 in No. 1 doubles, while Catherine Allen and Caroline Cox bested Caroline Casper and Emily Chen, 8-3 on the number two court. Kyla Scott and Juliette Martin sealed the three doubles points for the Athenas with an 8-5 victory in No. 3 doubles defeating Jay Kim and Summer Garrison

In singles play, Brown earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Garrison in No. 3 singles, while Cox edged Emily Chen, 6-4, 6-3 in No. 6 singles to complete the sweep for CMS. 

The win for the Athenas was the third over the Sagehens this season, having previously defeated them in the SCIAC Tournament title match (5-0 on May 5), and 8-1 during the regular season.
